Workers and Unions
Pride at Work is the queer voice in the labor movement. We are also a collective of queer activists fighting for worker justice. We work to ensure that unions understand and support LGBTQ issues. We work with unions to see that they are equipped to fight for domestic partner benefits and against LGBT discrimination.
We also educate the LGBT community to understand and support the labor movement. We regularly join local unions on the picket line. We are spreading the word in the LGBT community about union strikes, boycotts, and other campaigns. We support workers who are trying to organize unions so that they can get better pay, benefits, and voice on the job. We have our own seat on the San Francisco Labor Council. Howard Wallace, one of Pride at Work’s founders, is our representative. Pride at Work nationally has a seat on the board of the AFL-CIO. Nancy Wolfowitz of the OPEIU is our representative at the AFL-CIO.
Pride at Work supports workers trying to enforce their rights at work. Have you experienced discrimination or unfair treatment at work? Have you worked long hours for low pay? Pride at Work can help you get information about your right to the SF minimum wage, paid sick days, and healthcare. Contact us at sfprideatwork@gmail.com
