Community Not Commodity:
Pride celebrations in the month of June originated from the 1969
Stonewall riots, an uprising of some of the most oppressed people in the queer community against police brutality. Now the SF Pride parade has been taken over by corporations who use their floats as an opportunity to promote their brand and product and make money off of the LGBTQ community. This year SF Pride at Work-HAVOQ will celebrate Pride the old school way by taking direct action against discrimination and economic injustice affecting our community.
Direct Action gets the Healthcare:
Transgender folks are still discriminated against by all major health insurance plans, which refuse to cover medically necessary procedures requested by patients and recommended by doctors. Even healthcare providers that claim to be allies of the LGBT and queer community still discriminate. This Pride we will take action to let healthcare providers know that we demand an end to discrimination in their health care plans! We will also join with Occupride to let other banks and corporations know that the queers of the 99 percent won’t allow business as usual in our Parade or our town.
