Most importantly, our protest has helped the union in their efforts to publisize the worker called boycott of the hotels. Union staff say it has really raised awareness and helped in their outreach to hotel guests. An executive from Starwood, the corporation that runs the Westin St. Francis Hotel, even called the union president Mike Casey to complain. He remarked on how different the protest was from normal union pickets lines, but Mike told him the union didn’t hold this protest- it was Pride at Work & One Struggle One Fight! The director of the Hotel Council also called us to complain. She told us that the boycott is costing the hotel companies millions of dollars.
